The Lid Test

Affiliate Disclosure

Plain-English honesty about how this site makes money — because you deserve to know what's behind a recommendation before you act on it.

The short version

The Lid Test is free to read because some of the product links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission—at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is exactly the same whether you use our link or not. This is how the site is funded, and it’s the only way we make money from the products we cover.

Amazon Associates

The Lid Test is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Most of our product links point to Amazon, tagged with our Associates ID so a qualifying purchase is credited to us.

Commission never decides a recommendation

This is the commitment that matters most: a commission never changes which product we recommend. Our reasoning is identical whether a link earns us anything or not. Where a cheaper or lighter helmet is the better buy, that’s what we’ll tell you—even when a pricier option would pay us more. If Amazon has the cheaper offer on a product, Amazon is the link we point you to. Buyer-first beats commission, every time. You can read the full commitment on our editorial policy and how-we-review pages.

How our links are marked

Outbound affiliate links carry the appropriate sponsored and nofollowattributes, in line with Google’s link-spam guidance and FTC disclosure rules. Buy buttons and commercial pages show an #adlabel and a link back to this disclosure, so it’s always one tap away from any recommendation.

About the prices you see

Prices come directly from the retailer via a daily automated check and carry the date they were pulled. Prices change constantly, and the retailer’s price at the moment you click is the one that applies. If we can’t verify a current price, we show “Check price on Amazon” instead of a number—we never display a stale or estimated price.
