The Lid Test

Editorial Policy

The standards every page on this site is held to. These aren't marketing lines — they're the rules we actually build to, and you can hold us to them.

1. No fabrication, ever

We do not invent reviews, testimonials, star ratings, prices, or product claims. We have not hands-on tested the products we cover, and we never pretend we have—no “in our testing,” no fabricated lab results, no made-up quotes. Every spec comes from a published manufacturer or retailer source, and where a figure isn’t published, we say “Not published” rather than guess.

2. Every fact is sourced and dated

Each product’s specifications trace to the exact page we read them from, with the date of that visit shown. Our guides cite the standards bodies (NHTSA, UNECE, the Snell Memorial Foundation) and reference explainers behind their claims. A claim we can’t source doesn’t ship. Our full method is on the how-we-review page.

3. Prices are live, never stale

Prices come only from a daily automated retailer check and carry the date they were pulled. If the check stops, the price disappears rather than going stale—the failure mode is silence, not a wrong number. We never author a price by hand or display an estimate.

4. Commission never decides a recommendation

Some links earn us a commission. That never changes which product we recommend or how we rank it. Where a cheaper or lighter option is the better buy for you, that’s what we say—even if a pricier option would pay us more. Buyer-first beats commission, always. See our affiliate disclosure for how the funding works.

5. Honest authorship

Our writer is described accurately—an enthusiast who reads the manuals and does the math, not a certified tester or a credentialed expert. We never claim a qualification we don’t hold. Nothing on this site is professional safety, legal, or medical advice; it’s buying guidance for informed consumers.

6. We correct mistakes openly

We get things wrong sometimes, and specs go out of date. When you flag a factual error or an outdated figure, we check it against the source, and if you’re right, we fix it—promptly, and without pretending the error was never there. Our pages carry a “last verified” date so you can see how current the information is. Report anything at info@thelidtest.com or through the contact page.

7. Editorial independence

Manufacturers and retailers do not pay for coverage, placement, or a favorable verdict, and they don’t get to review our content before it publishes. What appears on The Lid Test is decided by us, on the terms above.
