The value-sport sweet spot
The RPHA 11 Pro is HJC’s statement that you don’t need flagship money for a light composite sport helmet, and it keeps showing up on best-of lists because the spec sheet backs that up. It sits in a useful gap: more helmet than a budget polycarbonate lid, at roughly half the price of a Shoei or AGV flagship. For a lot of sport riders, that’s exactly the right place to spend.
Shell and weight
The shell is PIM+—a hybrid of carbon, fiberglass and aramid—which keeps the weight down: Rider Magazine measured 3 lb 2 oz (about 1,417 g) in medium, though webBikeWorld measured heavier in XL, which is normal across shell sizes. That’s composite-shell weight at a price where you’d usually be stuck with heavier polycarbonate. It’s a genuine reason the RPHA 11 punches above its cost.
Eye port, ventilation and shield
HJC built the RPHA 11 for track use, which shows in the enlarged eye port (better peripheral vision in a tuck), the full front-to-back ACS ventilation, and the RapidFire II tool-less shield system. Swapping to a tinted shield is a ten-second job—which you’ll do, because there’s no internal sun visor.
The honest trade-off, and who it’s for
The one real compromise is certification: the RPHA 11 is tested to the older ECE 22.05, not the newer 22.06 that added rotational testing. That’s a valid, proven standard—but if you specifically want the latest protocol, the AGV K6 Scarries 22.06 at a higher price. Buy the RPHA 11 Pro if you’re a sport rider who wants a light composite shell and track-ready features without paying flagship money; see where it lands in our full-face ranking to compare directly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the HJC RPHA 11 Pro a good value?
It's one of the strongest value sport helmets you can buy — a light PIM+ carbon-fiberglass-aramid shell (Rider Magazine cites 3 lb 2 oz in medium), an enlarged eye port and tool-less RapidFire II shield changes, at roughly half what a flagship costs. The main compromise is certification: it's tested to the older ECE 22.05 rather than the newer 22.06, plus DOT.
What certification does the RPHA 11 Pro have?
DOT plus ECE 22.05 — the previous European standard. It's a proven, valid certification, but it predates the 22.06 revision that added rotational and multi-point impact testing. If having the newest standard matters to you, a helmet like the AGV K6 S carries 22.06; if value and weight matter more, the RPHA 11 is hard to beat.
Does the RPHA 11 Pro have quick shield changes?
Yes — HJC's RapidFire II system swaps the face shield without tools in about ten seconds, which makes going from a clear to a tinted shield genuinely easy. It has no internal sun visor, so that tool-less swap is how you handle changing light.
